Welcome to Emu Valley Rhododendron Garden

A garden for all seasons

~ Peak flowering - mid September to mid November ~

~ Autumn colours - May to June ~

We are a non-profit community organisation developing, maintaining and operating a multiple award-winning rhododendron garden.

Widely known internationally, our garden is unique for its design and the ability to grow all rhododendrons outside in our sheltered natural amphitheater. It is also home to some amazing natural wildlife, such as the echidna and the platypus.

See over 24,000 rhododendrons and companion plants set among 11ha, laid out by geographical origin of the natural rhododendrons, within themed environments.

Emu Valley Rhododendron Garden offers walking tracks, lakes, bridges and many other unique design features, as well as a resident platypus, echidna and diverse bird life. Our Tea Room is always a welcome and restful diversion for visitors.

The Garden features:

  • the amphitheatre consisting mainly of rich volcanic soil which was never farmed. The walls slope moderately steep into a large stepped basin fed by several natural springs forming a series of lakes.

  • landscaping including four lakes, waterfalls, several bridges, gazebos, dry stone walls, well-paved paths and internal roads.

  • native fauna such as platypus, echidna, frogs and many bird species. Native flora include many tree and fern species.

  • the garden is classified as a plant museum. As such it is a repository for many species of the genus rhododendron that are or may become endangered mostly due to human activity.

  • visitor facilities include toilets and tearooms with disabled access and parking for cars, buses and caravans.
